General Algebra and Theoretical Computer Science

Welcome to our web page! We are one of the ten organisational units of the Department of Mathematics and Informatics (called chairs). Together with our colleagues from Applied Algebra and Mathematical Logic and Discrete Mathematics, we take care of our Department's courses (at bachelor, master, and PhD level) in the areas of Algebra, Mathematical Logic, Discrete Mathematics, Algorithms, Formal Languages, and Automata.

The research interests of our members include universal algebra, semigroup theory, various aspects of mathematical logic and combinatorics, as well as applications of these theories in computer science (such as constraint satisfaction problems, design of efficient algorithms, formal languages). In addition, we are also interested in the philosophy and history of mathematics and methodology of teaching mathematics.

We have a rich experience in organising high-quality international conferences in algebra and related topics. Since 2005, members of our group are caretakers of the Novi Sad Algebraic Conference (NSAC) series, which is held every four years.
